survivor

We had a 200 year storm event (6 inches of rain with occasional sizable hail in 12 hours) that flattened so much of my garden. I went out between downpours to trim back the dahlias that were carrying the weight of all that water and spent a lot of the afternoon trying to figure out how to pose this flower. What do you think?
Great composition :)...neat color contrast between bold and soft

I like the petals becoming darker to the inside. This pose does justice to the beauty of this radiant red dahlia. What a pitty that the storm flattened part of the garden. Maybe your next pic is about 'survival of the fittest'? Although, this dahlia already is of course ;-)

lovely. Thanks for the follow-following back. I don't always comment on images everyday but I certainly look at them.

@caterina thanks for your comment and fav Caterina. I had a white backdrop from a not so expensive photography box set up. There was filtered sunlight coming in from the left side of the photo. I used a 100 macro lens with a pretty open aperture to blur out the backdrop, as well as the stem. The flower was in a vase and angled toward me with my camera on a tripod. I don't usually take this kind of time for a set up, but it was a rainy day...I tried so many versions of this until I got something I liked.

@vankrey thank you for taking the time to explain! I am learning all by myself ( don't have time for a proper course) and the help of good photographer is precious ! Have a good day
