No camera in my hands all day - busy with visitors. So, when everyone was in bed, I was back to strange clicking sounds and blinking lights and vessels of various shapes an sizes. Cooked up this. Another go for my Get-Pushed challenge from Marelize @ounooi to try out some light painting.
Wow - stunning shot, stunning effects. Love it - instant fav. I'm going to show them this at my photography group and see if we can pick up light painting as a subject!
Now it is my turn to say "wow" - thank you all so much for such generous feedback and reactions! It was fun - and also not that difficult to make this photo - I am glad it was entertaining for you to look at it.
Guy @guysnape: Almost dark room, ISO 100, F22 or 18, I don't remember now which one worked best for that little LED light. I believe 18, as the 22 was too dark to pick up enough of the tiny light. I used a little LED flashlight that my kids got as a free gift with some kind of magazine - a little (about 1' long) plastic thingy with a little LED and a tiny rubber band that you put onto your finger. I tied it to a string and while the shutter was open (about 30 seconds), I swirled it as much as I could inside a vase - suspended on that string. (I also tried a bunch of other containers like wine glasses, glass teapots, but this one had the best shape). And once I've swirled it enough inside, I just kept swirling above the vase, which made it look like the "stuff" got out like a smoke. That was basically it. Have fun experimenting!
Jill @jillhempsall - thank you so much for such kind words! I hope your photo club will have fun with this project.
