We were in Newport to watch my oldest son run a half marathon this weekend. This morning on the beach, I found a sight I have never seen before...rows and rows of formations from the wind. Some looked just like space ships, others were spinning tops, mushrooms, pottery. It was quite a sight!!! and my son was first in his division! a fun weekend with my son, his wife and my two oldest grandkids. oh and my husband too!
@espyetta these were made by the wind blowing the sand...it went on and on along the beach. In between rows of these formations were dunes of sand . I have never seen anything like it before. But it was not along the waterline, only on the areas away from the water. What I think is that the winters stormy weather got the sand really wet and now that the weather is clearing, the sand is beginning to dry then the wind blows away the dry sand leaving the wet sand, making these great formations as it dries. We have plenty of wind at our beaches in Oregon,. I am sure that in a few weeks when the upper sand away from the water becomes fully dry they will all be gone. But it was a fun thing to see! I wish I could have photographed it better to show how it went on and on.
@espyetta not sure if you noticed I had a few other posted on the previous days...close ups of some of the other ones that were out there...there were thousands....it still amazes me.
@janturnbull I had to Google his work to see what you meant. Wow, I can see how you could have thought it. This was truly a work of art very similar to what he does. You sure learn a lot on 365!!
Wow! These are amazing naturally formed sand sculptures! I've seen very interesting sand patterns at Agate Beach over the years but never anything that comes close to this. Super capture and fav.
