As there was so much interest yesterday in the forges at Paimpont, I thought today that I would show you the 'business end' of the site. Here, in front, we see the remains of the two blast furnaces which operated at 1500C using charcoal produced in the surrounding forest. The iron ore was open-cast mined at several sites in the vicinity.
The walls at the extreme right are the ruins of the foundry and the rolling mills (now totally restored) are out of picture to the right. The house in the centre was formerly the supervision office and the building at top left was workers lodgings and the site canteen: today it is a well known hotel and restaurant. This picture shows about one third of the original site.
This is my today's offering for B&W February and - inevitably - it views nicely on black.
I love how there is a path in the photo that starts at the right corner and meanders up through to the middle of the top. Draws you eye nicely though the picture. Beats the dickens out of my daily offering.
I'm presuming this is now a tourist attraction since there is a hotel and restaurant on the premises. I've enjoyed the history of this particular area.
I like the contrast produced by the different grey tones. They make a sense of tridimensional space. On the other side this is another fabulous history and landscape of Brittany
Love the textures and shapes Richard.
