Directionally Challenged by vignouse

Directionally Challenged

I hesitated a while before posting yesterday's picture of cows grazing, because I couldn't decide whether to post the colour or the monochrome version. In the end I went with colour so today you get black and white cows in B&W! I liked the independence of spirit of the one in front!
I guess a cow can only exercise independence in a few ways... like picking the direction of their grazing. :) There are really lovely details in this shot, by the way. An excellent b&w, in terms of tones and details.

I've noticed that most of the cows seem to face the same way but there is one that doesn't! Nice focus. I'll look at the colour version now!

I like the B&W. The cow in the foreground dares to be different! I do like that too!

Great capture, Richard!

This is very nice but to be honest yesterdays picture (to me) was FANTASTIC.

I would be the cow in front. Never could follow the crowd.

She's a leader. I wondered if you had considered bw on yesterdays.

Great shot and clever title! I think they need to be fattened up a bit, their ribs are showing.

Your processing has really brought out the detail in the cows and love how you've composed this. Title very cool too.

Lovely image @julzmaioro will like this one too.

Great shot, there is alway's one that has to go the other way.. @fntngrma These cow's are in good nik.. you want them putting energy into production not getting fat..

It's hard to tell where cows are looking, but I think that one in the front is looking at you, almost daring you to interrupt her meal (or choice of direction)

Great shot!!! Love your work!

These are the cows I remember from childhood . they were B&W even in colour, if you know what I mean. Friesian I think.......

Fantastic title and I like the composition. The directionally challenged cow helps pull the eye back to the center of the picture :)

I like the composition, picking out the herd-defying cow. I'd be interested to know a bit more about your processing. Black and white works well but you've done something fancy too? I don't know what it is and tbh, I'm not sure what it adds. Well done on another PP and TP!

I like the black and white for these cows.

Very good shot, great detail

So funny with your title and perfect for the composition (which I also like quite a bit!)

@jasperc Thank you Jasper - I appreciate your frank comments. I did some 'high-structure' processing with this which consists mainly of compressing and boosting the mid-range tones. I'm sometimes guilty of overprocessing and this may be one of those times, but I wanted the image to 'pop' - I also removed all or part of seven other cows!

I really like this. Works well in black and white. Possibly because of the leanness of the cows. Built to milk! Great shot .... as ever.

LOL there's always an odd one out!

she is independent and giving you the evil eye
they look a bit skinny
I love cows

i looked up some pictures - I cannot help my own curiosity and many seem to be that thin - hmmm

@vignouse Thanks for sharing that info. I will have to look into this technique... there are infinite possibilities when it comes to processing which is one of the reasons we have such a good hobby!
