Conductor

Yesterday the Harpist, today it's the turn of the leader of the Ensemble Jean-Marie Lorand who opened the summer season of classical concerts in Paimpont Abbey yesterday evening.

Like yesterday's picture, this is another in my series on hands.

Views nicely on black!
This is a wonderful picture.

Love the complete image and especially the treatment of each hand. Bravo, Sir! En core!

@kevin365 Thank you Kevin: this flies in the sense of received wisdom which says that the foreground should be in focus - especially as it is the 'conducting hand' which is out of focus - but I wanted this to show the conductor's prerogatives and he is concentrating on his score... his conducting hand is on 'auto'!

You always have such great perspective on things, this is wonderful.

And very eloquent hands they are!

Love the movement in the conducting hand - great series of photos. Can almost hear the music. What were they playing?

This gives me a real sense of anticipation, as he is about to turn the page and raises his hand. Very graceful capture. Fav.

Instant fav. I just love this, Richard. The crop of just his hands, the graceful movement, the focus -- everything about this is wonderful!

Wonderful light, composition, focus

interesting focus choice... makes you think - which is the way it should be :)

i really like the composition as well... the fact that you can only see the hands and the score... such an interesting portrait!

I like this perspective and the focus on the left hand while the right is in motion - fav!
July 7th, 2015
Wonderful! I really like the composition and B&W.

I really like the focus on the back hand and I am enjoying this series for the different view of hands as I recently did one on hands too.

Deft sleight of hand...yours!

Wonderfully composed!

Great capture - what a great series because musicians are all about the hands really.

Just enough movement. You made the right artistic decision Richard.

Wouldn't look out of place on the front of a RCA victor LP from the golden age of classical recordings...

nicely done

Splendid focus! I am a huge fan of black and white, and this one is beautifully done.
July 7th, 2015
Yes the focus is on the score - you led my eye straight there
July 7th, 2015
Very striking Richard....love the hands sort of floating in mid air.

Tom
A beautiful image.. instant fav

I agree with you in your choice of focus... the viewer sees the movement of the right hand, but the emphasis of your shot is in the sheet music and the left hand, turning the pages. Delightful!

Catching a moment! Wonderful capture!

Some wonderful programs including some of my favorite composers: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn
