The chapel at Coganne - one of the small villages which are part of the commune of Paimpont - is dedicated to St. Jacques. It was built in 1620 and for over 300 years it had it's own resident priest and served the local population for whom the Abbey at Paimpont would have been too far away to visit on foot - a 20 kilometre round trip. Today mass is still celebrated here a couple of times a year to maintain its status as an ordained place of worship.
I enjoyed the history of this little chapel. I'm curious about what the rope hanging from the ceiling might be used for. Excellent detail captured for our enjoyment. fav
@brigette They do get to see ones of the Abbey and the chapels as I provide all the photographs for the cultural exhibitions in the abbey and they are often used in publicity flyers and posters.
I love all the fine detail that you have brought out here Richard and the formality of the composition. It's a lovely old building and your processing makes it feel light and cool. I imagine it wouldn't feel like that in winter!
@whimsicalgrateful It's a single image Marta; the effect you see is achieved by boosting the micro contrasts in the mid-range tonal values which actually reduces the overall dynamic range but, yes, I have used the same mechanisms that most HDR software uses.
What a great place to visit and see in person! Very rustic with the wood, stone, and brick. I love the window and how your eye is pulled forward to the front of the chapel. fav
such an interesting combination of medieval and modern. I stared at it for a while wondering what exactly was striking me as modern. perhaps the lights? Seems like a nice play to pray.
it could use a ghost story though ;-)
