NF-SOOC-2015 Day 25: Church of St. Vivien, Saintes

Saintes is blessed with the wonderful Cathedral of St. Pierre; the Abbatiale aux Dames and many other fine churches: some extraordinary from the outside; some extraordinary from the inside... some both. The church of St.Vivien is very unremarkable outside and the inside has a sort of faded glory which I loved. This is a shot, in the dimly lit interior, of the altar and high altar... viewing on black is nice, I think.

This is my twenty-fifth image for NF-SOOC-2015 - you can read about it here - http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/26200/back-to-basics-nf-sooc-2015
Indeed it is...and a haven of peace and solace.

Wonderful to see the inside like this so well taken! The niche at the back is beautifully organised to see! fav

Don't you just love visiting these old peaceful churches....as soon as you open the door & walk in....silence!

The light and clarity on the maternal figure is special. St. Vivienne? Mary? I really like the ancient feel of the space. After my week... can I meditate here, please?

@rosiekerr Thanks Rosie - it was very peaceful here... the statue above the high altar is indeed Mary and the light on her was quite remarkable.
