I had a number of images that I could have posted today but I choose this one as it illustrates one of the frustrations of shooting sooc - not taking enough care with the framing. There is an unwanted noticeboard at bottom left which would be child's play to clone out... but which must remain as it is a sooc image - I'll try harder next time!
I would normally suggest viewing this on black - but it makes the noticeboard even more prominent :-((
if you had cropped it in-camera, does that not qualify as sooc? the noticeboard does glare and takes away somewhat from the beautifully lit arches. but it's an otherwise great image. aces!
@summerfield Not in my book - sooc for me means 'as recorded in camera' - it's precisely to learn to avoid this type of error that I first started doing this challeng in 2014. In my defence, I had just walked in the door when I saw this man begin to genuflect and knew that he would make the image... it was all very rushed! I have a raw file of this that I shall edit as this image is a keeper for me.
Great image, Richard, yes not quite right sooc, but like you say a nice illustration of what you what you are trying to show. Plus at least with this one you have two easy fixes, if you needed the image, simply crop the bottom off, which I don't think quite leaves the correct proportions or just clone out the sign which would leave you with yet another great image.
Big fave for me, I can see what you mean & admire your ethics but you can still edit for a keeper. Love the humble genuflect & that stunning stained glass window as it glows behind the altar. You have been you could chop the bottom off but in my mind that would spoil the proportions.
@vignouse - thanks, richard, it's a fair enough definition. i'll give the challenge a try, as i am now quite confident in my shots in that i noticed the last two years that when shooting landscapes, my horizons are straight without me being conscious of it. my composition might suffer a bit with the NF use but i would guess it's a matter of getting used to. i have nf for both my canon and my nikon, but the canon has an auto switch while the nikon is fully manual.
i look forward to seeing the edited version, sans the notice board, most especially.
@summerfield@vignouse see the issue here is timing... had you taken the time to compose to avoid the bit on bottom left, your human element would have moved on :). I'm very much on my he fence re your sooc challenge... on the one hand I am very much in favour in getting as much right in camera as possible, and that indeed takes practice... on the other hand, I fear it would be stifling of creativity...
i look forward to seeing the edited version, sans the notice board, most especially.
