I like the way a fast 50mm lens can be used to isolate a subject from it's surroundings. I took several photographs of this concrete block (it is used for mooring canoes and pedalos on Paimpont Lake) at different apertures until I was able to get the whole block in focus and all the background out-of-focus.
This is my favourite type of focus (camera cub always take the micky out of me when I use 50mm on largest apperture to take arty shots with fuzzzy backgrounds!)
Great contrasts too- off to look at your exif details to see how you got this!!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond The maximum aperture - with the lens I'm using here f/1.4 but it was stopped down to f/4 for this shot.
For this year's nf-sooc project I'm carrying two cameras: a Sony A7iii with 50mm f/1.8 lens for colour jpegs and a Fuji XT2 with 35mm (50mm FF equivalent) f/1.4 lens for B&W jpegs. The Exif details won't tell you but this was taken with the Acros film simulation with red filter applied and the contrast tweaked for more depth.
i like this simplicity of this... nicely chosen subject, well lit, and prettily composed :)
@30pics4jackiesdiamond - hmmm... i really don't know what to make of camera clubs... i joined one and went to a few meetings, and mostly was bored to pieces, plus not happy to spend two hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair after a long day at the office... the best night i went they had a professional photog speak and she was fantastic and inspirational, spoke about seeing things differently, etc... but the other evenings i attended just didn't do much for me...
Nice textures. There is something quite appealing about this image. is it the light? The DoF? The ordinariness of the subject? Probably all of those and more. Well done Richard.
@northy ours is so friendly!! No competitions or pressure. Wd range from novice with the gear, me with some gear and some idea and a profesdional!!! We teach each other ( I did the bokeh evening!!!)and go out and play. It's good humoured banter, they wanted to pan, I was doing the rusty links of the swings and fuzzy lights in background!!! But most managed z decent ( or in my case half decdnt) panning shot because old members good at it and taught us. The professional did the running!!!
I like your shot and also like the effect of a 50mm lens to isolate the subject. I am using my a6000 with the 30mm lens but I may sneak in some shots with the same camera and the 50mm lens. Will you excommunicate me?! Fav for this one - not a bribe!!
