On 30 September, for my last day of nf-sooc-2015, I recounted how I went on a search in the forest to find Fly Agaric mushrooms to photograph but failed to find a single one. Today, whilst out with our walking group, I found lots including this pair. The bigger one was the size of a large tea plate and both were perfectly formed... everything comes to those who wait!
@jack4john If you eat these as they are, any dreams you might have would be short lived! Apparently though, if you boil them for 15 minutes the toxins will be dissipated and you can then cook them as a normal mushroom... not for the taste, but for their hallucinogenic properties - I'm happy to forego that experience!
FAV -- fabulous find and beautifully captured! I always think of my first spotting of this mushroom when in Sweden, and I was later introduced to Elsa Beskow's classic picture book, "Children of the Forest" in which the cover depicts children with these mushrooms on their heads and apparently helps child readers learn what kinds of mushrooms are safe and not in the forest.
Possess it if you can
Found often in a woman
Yet rarely in a man.
Last line needs must be amended,
..and sometimes in a man.
Bravo!
