OCOLOY Day 350: The One Tree by vignouse

OCOLOY Day 350: The One Tree

There used to be 21 mature trees at the junction of our little lane and the main road, now the only one left is this beautiful Chestnut tree which I am happy to see everyday as I step out of our front door. Shrouded in mist all day today it looked even more poignant.

As usual, the image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.

Indulge me and view this on black...
My get-pushed this week is negative space. Lovely inspiration.

Just lovely, reminds me of Monterey California. Foggy and mysterious.

Super composition and foggy atmosphere

@joysabin I've only visited Monterey once... it was indeed foggy!

I love the silhouette of this well shaped tree.

What happened to the 20 others?
December 16th, 2016
Lovely - I guess one is better than none!

The telegraph poles and wires add to the bleakness. Neat composition. For once I'm going to admit that this would not be better in colour!

Bleak...and how! Having said that the other 20 trees are not completely lost. I counted the telegraph poles and fence posts and I make it 22. Given that they're made from wood, yet serve a different purpose...especially the fence posts...this give you come small comfort.

I'm with Poppy - what happened to the 20 others? I hope that solitary tree will remain! A very mystical image.

@ahleena @jamibann See here from October 2014 - http://365project.org/vignouse/365/2014-10-15 In addition to the trees in the copse, there were others along the roadside that were also felled - The One Tree stands as a witness to the needless loss of the others.

@s4sayer Ah oui... mais non! Most of the poles in this image are power-poles and they are made of concrete as you know :-((

Hope you've driven some large and obvious nails into it to slow down the next person with the chainsaw. Normally the telegraph poles would drive me crazy, but given your backstory, I think they just underline the point.

Makes for a mysterious shot like this

There's a lovely bleak feel to this... puts me in mind of Wuthering Heights

I enjoy the simplicity and negative space.

I don't know what to say except - great shot, great idea ;-)

I do like a solitary tree. FAV!

Amazing how those details pop on black. Love that you have brought such b&w serenity to the mad month of the year.
