Well, it's Monday. I enjoyed the weekend just gone, but it went too soon. At least I had some time this evening to take some photos, so I did a shoot in my kitchen.
This shot took many attempts, and I tried it with the flash and without. Without the flash meant a slower shutter speed and a more wispy effect; with the flash resulted in a shot like this. It looked quite good in colour too, but my other half thought monochrome is better. The set-up was my camera on a tripod, a bowl underneath my hand, a dark background and some sugar. Simple.
I had to discard a lot of my shots because of my background. I used a black bin bag, but it reflected too much because it was wrinkled and rendered many of my shots unusable. I need to get some dark and light backdrops for shots like this. That's more photography accessories to put on to the list!

I like this! I know your pain with lighting issues. You should try my pizza-pan lamp ghetto rig! haha. :D It totally works. I used it on my Cuppa selfie.
Wow, this one turned out fantastic!! I bought a couple of solid black sheets at a garage sale for .50 cents each to use as backdrops. I also got a huge piece of black felt from work that I can use.
GREAT shot Vik (is that right? or Vikdaddy). I love the great contrast on your hand, the white sugar, just amazing. Actually I was just reading yesterday an article about improvised backgrounds. A black/white sheet or some other fabric apparently works well because it doesn't reflect the light that much.
Great image. Like the contrast.
Backdrops are a good investment. I just went to the fabric shop and baught a few yards of black material. Also, a sheet of posterboard works for macro shots. Good luck.
