Today was my mum's 54th birthday, so I paid a visit. First my brother and I went to a home improvement centre to pick up a large plant for her present. Recently my mum's got into growing her own vegetables and plants and things, and I think it's because it reminds her of when she was young and back home in rural India.
After a nice dinner I took a few photos of the family. My mum doesn't really like her photo being taken, but I settled on this one for today.
I took a few photos of my mum and dad together but I wasn't really happy with any of them; either my dad was perfectly in focus or my mum was, but neither at the same time. This is actually a picture of my mum with my dad cropped from the shot.
I love my mum to bits. I have yet to meet anybody even close to being as selfless as my mother; she has forsaken so much to ensure my brother and I had a good start in life. She still has only one day off from work a year and virtually gave up any semblance of a social life to provide for us, and for that I will always be grateful. She is a remarkable, strong woman, especially for putting up with me when I was a young rascal! She isn't really aware of this project but I'll say it anyway... I love you mum!

Aw, happy birthday to your mum. You sound like a good son--you should let her see the photo and what you wrote--I'll bet it would make her feel really good.
Reading your caption about your mom reminded me a lot of how I feel about mine. So glad you love your mom to bits :) :) Wonderful portrait of yours too!!! My mom hates her picture taken...but sometimes they just need to deal. Happy Birthday Vik's Mum!! :)

So glad you have a great mom, nice portrait. I was thinking of trying to get some portraits of my family when I am home in Oct as well. But like you said, i t's tough when people don't really like having their photo taken. Great shot though.
