I felt a bit rough today after last night. I only had a couple of beers to celebrate the birth of my new cousin, but I went to bed later than normal and ate lots of Indian food. I didn't sleep so well and couldn't wait to get home after work and just relax.
When I got home I looked out of my back window, and there was intense sunshine and spitting rain. I liked the contrast, so I opened the patio door and took some pictures. When I closed the door, the sun shone through the raindrops on the glass in a nice way, so I took a few more.
I had to use the smallest aperture on my 50mm lens because it was so bright. I increased the clarity in post-processing so that the sparkles are more obvious. Everything in this photo - such as the sparkles and sun flare - was as it was taken and totally natural, and a combination of natural phenomena and good luck!
What I like about today's photo is that it reminds me of a starry night. It's why I called today's title 'the final frontier', from Star Trek. When I was a kid I was fascinated by all things Space-related, so much so that I wanted to be an astronaut! Oh how reality later kicks in...

That is so lovely! Did you add those little stars on photoshop? It has a lovely ambiguous effect as you have no idea what time of day it is or what the weather is like at first glance!
Vik this is an awesome shot! I love those little diffraction stars on all the water droplets, I didn't know you could get that kind of effect from water drops, but now I do. Nice one!
Hi Vikdaddy, I am totally fascinated by this shot - those little stars are the prettiest thing ever. I would love to use this shot as an overlay/texture for one of my shots - but I of course wanted to ask you first :) So let me know what you think – best, Lily
