I knew what I was going to photograph today. It's good when I've planned ahead, because the pressure is off and I can relax all day. I was going to do a still life with some pears that I had purchased at the weekend, so I attempted various shots in the kitchen. Eventually I decided to go with a single pear, and I used the light from an ambient source in the kitchen.
I placed the pear on the back of a tray and placed the pear where it and its shadow filled the frame. I set up my tripod and used a long exposure, a fairly low aperture and a low ISO to maintain sharpness. I did very little in post-processing except crop the sides of the photo a little. I don't like that the background is slightly off-white, but other than that I'm happy with it.
I really need to get a proper flash. I keep setting up shots in my kitchen because I can use the spot lights, but it's a bit of a pain. If I get an external flash that I can use in tandem with my camera such as the 430EX II, it would be really useful. Thing is, I've bought enough expensive photography equipment over the last few months so I need to curtail my spending, but I'm not sure I can hold out too long...
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.
