Unlike yesterday, I didn't have a clue what to shoot today. By the time I got home I mentally visualised an image using my other half, but Suman was getting ready to go to the gym so I had to use my good self.
Imagine this shot with a pretty lady instead of me - that's how I imagined it! I set up my tripod to my left and slightly behind me, and used the two-second timer. In post-processing I increased the exposure to accentuate the natural light on my face from the window. This photo was cropped; this is about half of the original image.
Despite doing it today, I rarely crop my photos these days. Earlier in my project I used to crop all the time, trying to improve the composition of shots in post-processing. Over the past few months though I almost always ensure the photo is well composed as I take it. It's a basic photography skill, but a very important one.
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.

first of all, as a girl, i'm liking the fact that you used yourself in this shot...although some of the men on here may have preferred Suman :) next, I really appreciate your descriptions of how you set up your photos and process them. As someone trying to learn more about the technical aspects of photography, it really helps me to look at your visual as well as read how you did it!
I like the bokeh! Your shots always look so good as b&w and I'm always impressed, despite not being a fan of b&w in general. Also, the curl of your hair is a cute touch :D
I like it, and I'm glad you used yourself even though of course Miss Suman is ever so beautiful. :) Not enough of you fella's do selfies!
I like that it's b&w, and I like your pose, I wish I could see more detail in the hand, but overall I think it's great. Very nice selfie, and a good one for the theme!
Please ignore my badly placed punctuation there. Very tired! Little sleep last night. I do actually know how to use an apostrophe. :P Someone gimme an edit comment button!
@arlyah365@alisongbradshaw hey alison, arlyah, i'm glad you appreciate my selfies! The detail in the hand was difficult to get because of use of natural light through the window, but I did think the same thing. If I was shooting somebody else I would have sorted it :D
it's nice that you have noticed this and are more aware about composing the shot versus cropping. it's wonderful to have photos and be able to concretely compare our photos now from day 1 :)
this is pretty awesome, even without the beautiful lady :)
great black and white, great lines, and i love the light on your face!
@vikdaddy ... It is! I hadn't seen this... otherwise I probably would have thought of shooting at a different angle so to get the outside view as well, like you've done. Great shot. Wish I woulda seen it before!! :(
Handsome gentleman! It'd be cool to take a shot of your Pretty Lady from the other direction (or take it the same way you did this one and then flip it horizontally) and have a diptych of the two. :)
I absolutely love it!

I think I've cropped maybe 3 photos the entire project. I also prefer to try and compose the shot as best I can while I'm shooting.
