Today's shoot took far longer than I thought it would. Suman bought some white lilies for the living room at the weekend and she suggested that I take a photo of them. A sole lily had bloomed, so I wanted to concentrate on that. I needed to use my external flash, but after a few attempts it stopped firing. I think it's the cheap batteries I used! I tried various compositions, and I wasn't happy with most of my shots.
Doing shots of plants is out of my comfort zone and I feel this shot was the best of a bad bunch (geddit?!) I'd rather have a dark background for a better contrast, but it was getting late. Because my flash wasn't firing I had to use my tripod with a relatively long exposure. I hope it just needs new batteries because I haven't used it that much.
I have a couple of interesting shoots lined up this week. I'm shooting a local gaming event on Friday, which should be a valuable experience. I'm also hoping to do a very interesting shoot with my friend John Wynn (last shot on day 118), but I'll keep the theme of that shoot a surprise...
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.

Gorgeous! You should be very happy with this shot!
Sounds like you have some fun stuff lined up. Since I started taking classes, and started this project, I go way beyond my comfort zone when taking pictures. I'm still having a blast! Can't wait to see what you have in store.
That is very beautiful indeed - I looked at the thumbnail and thought someone had photographed a painting, it has that quality and would make a beautiful painting too. This is very nearly my favourite flower (although I have a few). My favourite is Lillium Regalia. If ever you can get hold of those, they are simply stunning; white with aubergine tones brushed on the outside of the horn and very yellow stamen.
Good shot! It's really pretty with the soft pink background.
I like shooting plants and have taken several hundred pictures (on my fb gardening page) since this spring to document the change in my garden. I have also done quite a few on the photowalks I've done. It's much easier to shoot the plants outdoors in natural light.
I think the light background is actually nice - it fits the mood of the flower (if flowers could have moods :D) and is soft and complimentary against the flower's hues. Very creative angle/composition too.

Fingers crossed the batteries are the problem with the flash!
