The sky was gorgeous and clear today. I just had to do a shoot outdoors to take advantage of the serene blue sky, so I went to the University of Nottingham's Jubilee Campus again for the third time during this project. I decided to go again because I had not photographed The Exchange Building, an interesting structure with timber cladding.
By the time I had got to The Exchange Building the blue sky was starting to wane. It was fairly busy as students were finishing for the day so I was a little hesitant about my shoot, but I got a few I'm quite pleased with ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/).
Today's photo is not perfectly taken, as the aperture was too wide and the uppermost part of the tower is slightly out of focus. The sun was setting and the light from my perspective was at a premium; if I did reduce the aperture the shutter speed would have to be slower, so it would have probably blurred anyway. Perhaps I should have increased the ISO to let in more light to compensate, but I don't like the slight increases in noise for each incremental ISO jump. I'm quite happy with the way it was composed though.
I can't believe how cold it has got recently. There was frost on the car this morning! It's the beginning of the Winter season, and although I don't like it when it's bitingly cold, the change in the landscape should offer some interesting photo opportunities over the coming months.
Semi-professional photographer based in Nottingham, England, I shoot mainly events and weddings. I'll be posting my work using my Fujis - X100S and X-Pro1.

I like the composition here. If I may offer my thoughts about raising ISO, I would raise it if needed. Modern cameras ISO is good enough up to 400, and on such small photo as it's here it's almost invisible... My 2 cents. :)
Agreed on the part about the weather, damned cold, I'm bored of it already! As far as ISO, I was happy going up to 400 on my 450D, especially for here as at only 550px wide you'd never notice the difference. Interestingly the 550D seems about the same at 800 as my 450D was at 400 :O
@eyebrows Yeah ramping up ISO somewhat would have been okay I suppose. When I leave ISO on auto though I find the 450D almost never selects 100 and usually picks 400, which started to annoy me so I left it on 100 as a default.
Sweet architectural shot! Love the angle! Can't tell about the drop in DOF at this resolution, either - looks great to me. Have you tried Noiseware plugin for PS? Works a treat. I shoot all the way up to ISO 6400 and beyond now because of how well that plugin works. Also hear good things about Noise Ninja, but haven't used it myself.
