The long and eventful history of Dunster Castle starts with the de Mohuns who arrived soon after William the Conqueror became King of England in 1066. William de Mohun constructed a timber castle on the site of a Saxon hill fort as part of the pacification of Somerset.
The turrets and flags flying on the roof make me think of knights but I guess they were around a bit before this castle. It does look like a strong fortress on the hill surrounded by the forest.
@serendypyty@carole_sandford well worth a visit if in North Somerset area. The gardens alone are really nice and the views are amazing. I took loads of photos but they did not do it justice. As all National Trust properties it is well cared for.
