The end of the pier ... by wordpixman

The end of the pier ...

... literally!

Felixstowe Pier, Suffolk, once a favourite calling point for pleasure steamers, was cut in two at the outbreak of WWII to deter the invaders that we all thought were coming. Fortunately, due to the bungling of the Nazi high command, the invasion did not happen, but unfortunately for Felixstowe the pier proved too expensive to restore after the war and the seaward half was demolished.

In my picture taken today the only visitors to the remaining stump were seagulls because the structure has long been declared unsafe for human use.
What a great shot, Arthur! It captures well the lonely feeling of the abandoned pier. Fav.
