Isolation by yaorenliu

Isolation

Between 1943 and 45, Aaron Siskind did a Gloucester series explored the relationship between objects. “… the meaning of these objects exists only in their relationship with other objects”. He also made object in isolation such as Martha’s Vineyard . He claimed that it was also about relationship – “as it has been deprived of relationship”. Some artists are always right, Right?

This is isolation study but open for confusion.
I think you have got a lot to offer in thought associated with art, Yao!

Lovely composition! Artists are very subjective, so not so sure that they are always right! I guess the black olive has been deprived of it's relationship with rice??!! Yao, I think I'm lost!

@savannah51 You made me laugh. It is a black rock in isolation. How did it get into my rice container? I am lost too.

The rock is the exact opposite of the rice. They share nothing similar. It's common knowledge that opposites attract. Therefore the relationship between the rock and the rice is formed by their opposing properties. Did I get that right?

I'm lost too, but it is an interesting photo and a conversation piece

Very zen. All those clear bits of rice supporting that round smooth object. One thinks about the power of a million ideas to support a solid thought. Great photo for one to just imagine.

@alicias @onewing This is the beauty of abstract.

@pam1 No wonder you did master and studied Taoist and Zen. Your thought always amazes me.

反差大,但吃的时候不要放在一起,哈哈

@liuting You would say that I am in desperation.

you made my head hurt again...:)

Very interesting effect.

I'd say Martha's Vineyard was the pinnacle of isolation. If you look up "American Sign Language," the definition dates back only as far as the sixties! Imagine trying to create an entire, innovative language thirty years before it becomes accepted by the rest of society.

Love the composition. A great idea to put the rock and the rice together, one is large and impenetrable, single and alone, the other is a community of small, single and identical grains. I think iot works very well!

Great composition, at first glance quite simple but I love the complexity at a closer look xx

An interesting look into the feelings of the artist. Excellent composition. And the contrast of the smooth object (rock?) against the rice really accents the idea of the title. Well done Yao!

Outstanding -- the contrast is terrific and the rice makes a great textured background. You are really getting this challenge nailed down!

Honestly, I was waiting for your answer about the nature and origin of this strange, smooth, round object/rock/olive... I liked this picture, but the thought eludes me! Isolation is some form of relationship, I agree.. But it demonstrates the own choice of the object - the object chooses to be alone in the crowd and the object is still part of the crowd, anyway! That's why I was wondering about the reason that made you place the strange object there, I expected to see another grain of rice in rice - isolated object should be one of them! But the rock is totally different, that makes me think about another form of isolation... The picture is amazing in its simplicity, contrast and meaning! But why this object?

I love reading the comments on your work, so interesting how differently people respond , you get people thinking!

@ksyu You are so deep and I can never match.

Faved it. Love the contrasts; black and white, big and small, alone and a lot. Like a little boat in a big sea. It does something to me, I feel the isolation. Beautiful.
