Thomas Leuthard defines Candid Street Portraiture as photograph made without subject's explicit permission. Press the shutter when "eye contact" (through the view finder) obtained.
I tried with all my courage. My heart nearly jumped out of my body. Damn, I did not get the focus.
He's looking slightly to his left though! Does anyone have enough nerve to make eye contact and click! Probably with a professional boxer at your side, maybe!
Well the out of focus may not have been intentional but the result is kinda cool. I usually find it best to pre-focus and lock it at a distance of about 1.2m. This kind of photography is always a bit hit and miss. Keep going for it!
I agree that him being out of focus kind of adds to the shot - it works really well. I'd love to get into street portraiture but seem to have no backbone at all when it comes to pointing my camera at people who might not like it. Determined to give it a go though
In my opinion. Letting the face out of focuss you've achieved a true street picture. You see the face and second the banner, then you return to the face. That's it.
I love candid street portraits. I am far to chicken to get that close though. I rely on my trusty 300mm lens and the safety that distance provides. :)
