Our new AC was installed today. We went top-of-the-line this time! WOW it's a really cool (no pun intended) variable system where it has five stages to run at five different levels allowing just the right amount of air to blow from each zone in our house. A little too technical for me but it's supposed to save 20% on our electric bills and will pay the cost difference off between the mid-range system and the high-end system in approximately six years. That's pretty good since we should get 20 years out of it.
@alophoto It was 94° upstairs last week. Our system was 20 years old and was barely limping along. Thank goodness for our new system. Call Chris Zimmer at Zimmer Heating and Cooling for a quote if you need to. They are the best!!
@gardenfolk Willis Carrier is my hero and my very favorite inventor of all time, even over the guy who invented ice cream!!
Willis Carrier: The Inventor of Modern Air Conditioning
Genius can strike anywhere. For Willis Carrier, it was a foggy Pittsburgh train platform in 1902. Carrier stared through the mist and realized that he could dry air by passing it through water to create fog. Doing so would make it possible to manufacture air with specific amounts of moisture in it. Within a year, he completed his invention to control humidity – the fundamental building block for modern air conditioning.
