Downtown Wilmington & The Battleship North Carolina
To begin our five-day vacation in North Carolina, we left the snow behind, flew into Raleigh/Durham then drove to Wilmington to visit my childhood girlfriend SusanRosenberg.
Walking around downtown we discovered the UNTAPPD corporate headquarters in the old Cotton District. It's an app Ande uses to record the craft beers he tries. He had just uploaded a beer at lunch when we saw the logo from across the street. We were so surprised — we thought it was just some guy in a room that started an app. We had no idea it was an International company employing over 100 people.
They invited us in to tour the facilities. From the rooftop seating area we could see the Battleship North Carolina docked across from downtown on the Cape Fear River. It's an authentically restored World War II battleship that's now a museum honoring the 11,000 North Carolinians of all branches of service who gave their lives in the war.
A gorgeous day for exploring our first day in the south.
