Pink Slipper Orchid by yoland

Pink Slipper Orchid

This is the first one I have seen this year, my favourite wild flower know by quiet a few names; Fairyslipper, Cytherea, Venus slipper, pink slipper-orchid, false ladyslipper • Calypso bulbosa
Doing a little research online today I discovered;
It’s an endangered species of wild Fauna and Flora, it is fragrant.
Fairy-slippers do not produce nectar. Instead, their flower has a similar shape and smell to other nectar-producing flowers. Pollinators are lured to the flowers by these similarities, and end up brushing against the column (an orchid-specific structure composed of the pistol and stamens joined together) which deposits pollen on the visiting pollinators.

My slippers are grey with stars on them but your pink one is prettier. Oh you were looking for a tree pun on my tree stump yesterday. Don't worry it went on the POPULAR page. Yes I'm barking mad. FAV

@jon_lip They do need protection.
I took a pic of the Pink Geranium for you on a trip up the island. It’s in my extra pics. I hope it brings back great memories for your wife. :)
