Lake Waikare is the largest of several shallow lakes near us. It covers 34 km².
Due to its shallow nature (its depth is never more than two metres) and the heavy use of fertiliser in the surrounding farming district, the waters of the lake are in poor condition. Yet some days it's beautiful. The mist was just rising, and I used a slow shutter speed to flatten the ripples. The swallows were out in force, dipping down to catch flies
@chikadnz I’ve seen photos of people sailing here. When we first arrived 18 years ago, the remains of the sailing club was still here, it’s long gone now. There are still boats on the water, but only ones taking the duck shooters out to the MaiMais. The lake is full of Koi, so bow fishermen come here too
