Another Castle Day, this one is Dunnotter Castle. (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Fhoithear, "fort on the shelving slope")[which describes it perfectly] is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-eastern coast of Scotland, about 3 kilometres south of Stonehaven. The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages. Dunnottar has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland through to the 18th-century Jacobite risings because of its strategic location and defensive strength. we then went on to RSPB FOWLSHEUGH nature reserve to watch the seabirds. Sadly no puffins, but heaps of guillemots which I'm becoming quite fond of
Just had to let you know, after seeing your post, it reminded me of something that I had been seeing lately. After looking around, finally realized that the view of the castle, was on my screen saver on my computer.
