This vivid red Hygrocybe may not have been the most perfect specimen in the forest, with its curled and weathered cap, but it was impossible to ignore. Glowing like a tiny beacon against the dark leaf litter, its intense scarlet stem and cap immediately caught my eye amongst the muted browns of the bush floor. Capturing this image required a 40-shot focus stack to hold detail throughout the delicate fungus while still preserving the soft, dreamy background of the forest.
