Wow, inevitably wow! I saw that others have used the same exclamation but this stunning photo leaves you breathless. The colours, ah! incredible, just fabulous.
WoW! What an amazing capture! This was my dads favorite bird. I can imagine your happiness as the boat drifted closer and the kingfisher continued to pose. Gorgeous shot.
"WOW!" is my comment. What a beautiful picture. I've looked at some of your other photos and many would be favorites of mine. Thank you for visiting my site and commenting.
Great job! He is small! At my lake, I finally realized we had the other k ind of Kingfisher. Once I took a pic of one, I could see this gorgeous greyish blue plumage, white collar, crested head. They are much bigger than this little beauty. Maybe 10 inches/12 inches. They chatter chatter chatter as they fly down, hit the water, and snag a fish. So much fun to watch!
Wow this is just unbelievably beautiful! Massive Fav!!! This is definately heading onto the PP and TT, the colours are just out of this world!! There is some stunning wildlife around you, fab capture :)
Wow I'm so jealous of this shot, the chances of even seeing a Kingfisher let alone snapping one is very unlikely, you have captured it beautifully, really lovely.
Gorgeous, gorgeous colours. I remember one flew into an open window (swimming pool was reflected in window) stunning itself. We were able to take a good look at it before it regained consciousness and flew off. Such beautiful birds.
Thank you all for your wonderful comments. For those who asked this is not a painting. It is a photograph and it is SOOC... he is that vibrant. I am thrilled you all like my favourite bird so much.
This photo caused a debate at dinner last night as fellow diners told me I had misidentified it and it was actually an African Pygym Kingfisher. Out come the well respected Roberts Bird Book and I also had to call on my cousins knowledge (who is a well respected guide in our biggest game park) and I was right... it is a Malchite after all ;-) The Pygym does look very similar but it only has blue over the crown and purple behind the eyes. @zambianlass I was a trolley dolly for British Caledonian and used to fly to Lusaka every couple of months. Most of us would head straight to the Kafue National Park for our time off. They were my favourite trips and still miss them!
@julievalerie ah the days of British Caledonian. My sister and I had our BC passports and used to love sending up to the flight deck for stamps from the pilots. I am sure we were even allowed up to the flight deck in those days ourselves. I am so glad you have such fond memories of Zambia :-) Come back one day - it is still beautiful
