Well, I found an excellent app (Aurora Watch UK from Lancs Uni) and followed the activity levels from the sun and the map of where the aurora were forecast to show. We went out to a nearby cricket pitch to find a darker site away from the brighter lights of our town, looked north into our mostly clear skies and waited, hoped, watched and took long exposure photos.
But it never came this far south. Some nice starry skies and wisps of cloud (bottom of the collage is mine) but no aurora. So my lifelong ambition remains to be achieved. I may need to buy a new bottle of sloe gin.....lol
You're not alone in never having seen Aurora!
We were driving home from Aberdeen on Friday about 10.45 and the sky was quite interesting with moon and very end of day skylight. But half an hour later hundreds of friends were posting spectacular aurora pictures on Facebook.....who would know???😂
I missed it. A friend saw it Friday night but I forgot about it after a busy day. No luck when I looked on Saturday. I will just have to remember seeing it as a child from the backseat of the car. Of course, as I am learning our memories aren't always reliable so who knows if I really ever saw it. LOL
Aww that’s a shame, we saw it but not as good as my son on the coast. Maybe there will be another chance, it seems to be a more a more hopeful chance lately!
I’m gutted, we are in Chelmsford at my daughters and knew nothing about it until my niece sent me pictures from our home town - also on my bucket list still!
