Insurers plan: take £350 excess off me in cash when delivering courtesy car. Remove car to official repairer. Write car off unnecessarily. Take back courtesy car. Give me less than half its value, leaving me out of pocket and with no car. Massively increase our premium.
Our action: Taking back control. Have cancelled insurance claim and yet they still have removed my no claims bonus, despite no longer making a claim!
Took advice from a local reputable garage, who examined my car carefully and confirmed damage is localised to front wing and bumper and nothing to subframe or chassis. They agreed insurer writing it off completely unnecessary but "what they do these days." Arranged for them to do the work for us, cutting insurers completely out, in about 10 days time.
Needless to say, we are moving insurer and rethinking the kind we take out. Complete bunch of shysters.
On that note, I spotted this entry on my ice cream I ate at Flatford last Sunday. "Exhausted vanilla bean pieces" and it made me laugh. Poor little vanilla beans! I share your pain LOL
Oh, your narrative made me smile, despite your pain! That is a terrible insurance story. (Although we are still waiting for settlement of our claim when the gas lorry knocked down our front wall ... only 5 months now!!!).
@ankers70 I discovered they are the leftover bits amd have very little flavour left. Usually used as decorations on food for the look not flavour. New one on me too!
How ridiculous! Surely if a car is written off (rightly or wrongly) then you get paid what it’s insured for? Makes no sense to me and I can’t believe all this bad luck.
Look into Amica. They don't do a lot of advertising but they do a lot of caring. I have no idea how their prices compare with others but I believe I get the service I pay for.
@ankers70 I thought it was a grammatical error but I googled just in case and found out they are seeds from pods that have been previously used in the production of vanilla extract. They have a mild vanilla flavour and are mainly used for texture and visual appearance.
I feel your pain. We had a similar saga that went on for 2 years following a motorbike accident.
Poor little exhausted beans. I guess they did have to travel a long way to end up in the ice cream.
That was a rip off by the insurance company. I would have insisted for my money back. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the ice cream. The recipe of the ice cream is too complicated for me to understand.
This made me smile. I know how it feels. I am exhausted tonight too, just got home. Off to bed now, another long day tomorrow. What shysters indeed the insurance company is. Hope it all works out. Will be in touch soon.
I've never had much faith in insurance companies. They seem to work on the principle that if you flipped a coin it would be heads they win, tails you loose!
My heart goes out to those poor exhausted vanilla bean pieces - I know how they feel!
"On that note, I spotted this entry on my ice cream I ate at Flatford last Sunday. "Exhausted vanilla bean pieces" and it made me laugh. Poor little vanilla beans! I share your pain LOL" Glad you found a reason, however small, to laugh after the last several days you have had! Of course, I knew a bit of the story re: your insurer; but the full account you've given here of their response to your accident is abhorrent! No wonder your stress heightened! Praying for peace!
Insurance companies are just rip off merchants! There is always something in the small print to catch us out. When I was claiming on my house insurance after the flood and we had to move out for 3 months it was like getting blood out of a stone! I lost thousands! I just gave up in the end!
Lol - so good that you can still find and appreciate funny things - even in the middle of your fight with the insurance company!! That will help see you through the unpleasantness..
Wow Casa' that's a great rant and I can sense your upset and anger ! I like voting with your feet so to speak , you get treated badly and take your customers elsewhere . I am in the Casa' camp for voting with ones's feet / principals
All insurance companies are brilliant, UNTIL you need them and then they will do EVERYTHING they can to minimise THEIR costs and they have no interest whatsoever in what you want. For something mandated by law, we are all getting ripped off by them.
@phil_sandford That is exactly my experience, Phil. A friend of mine who works at court was talking to a top lawyer recently and he said insurance is technically legalised crime. Doesn’t surprise me.
