I took this photograph this morning. As can be seen, it was taken looking directly into the sun. I wanted the smoke around the stall to show. There is a lot of flare and contrast is limited.
It more or less catches the scene as I saw it. The question is, does it capture the moment or is it simply a bad photograph?

A camera club judge will pick holes to critique and find good across the whole image and will give it a score. BUT, do you take the photograph for you or for a judge?
Look at TT, CP and PP on this site, do you always agree with what's there? It's all down to those who look and view and the mood of the viewer- if they give a fav (judge highly) or not (not in a favving mood)
Tell me if you like this image- you are the most important judge of your work.
Oh for my two-pennyworth, I think its a nice (don't you hate that adjective) interesting (another word that can be judgemental) candid of something i certainly don't see here where I live.
They is so much of interest here in this street scene. You have certainly captured the smoke. I do not spend a lot of time editing and don’t use any fancy software but with a little tweak and sharpening it gives another dimension to this shot.

I think this is full of interest and is one of those images that with a bit of post-processing may become quite striking. How about trying a monochrome conversion? That may well work. Would you mind if I had a go?
Where there’s smoke there’s fire as the saying goes. I’m a novice but this shows so much in this street scene. Colourful, day to to day life, transportation and what I call spaghetti electric!
@lsquared The flag is a shame and it could easily have been avoided by taking a step to the right, but despite this it is a good photograph and well worth doing a bit of post-processing.
@allsop I really hate when judges at competitions say what could have been done if only......
Someone's Law states if photogger stepped to one side the pedestrian's position would change, breeze would move flag, and the whole angle of scene, to get smoke, lost!!!
We had one judge who said it was a shame the photographer hadn't gone at a different season to get the sun on the right hand side of the image!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond You are right, it is a danger that the whole shot will not work as intended and I should have made it clear that that was a possibility. It is so easy to say what should have been done when really it is impossible to say unless you are there. As I said John has made a good photo, his decision to go for capturing the smoke was the right one.
I think @30pics4jackiesdiamond is spot on. You are the judge. I like it as a street scene and the smoke adds to it. If I changed anything, I might have shifted a tad to the side so that sign wasn’t covering the “green shirts” face.

Before I publish any photograph online, I try to ensure that it has a subject of interest, is correctly exposed and the subject is in focus. I think that has been achieved here.
My preference is for bright colours with plenty of depth. This photograph does not fall into this grouping.
The scene around the food cart was constantly changing; if I am honest, I was unaware of the flag obscuring the man's face until I saw the photograph on the computer. After I had taken the photograph the scene changed in that firstly people moved so that they were facing away from me and then quickly just left leaving only the seller.
John, I have been monitoring this discussion as well.
I only contributed a brief comment as I am currently travelling. I think this site and the act of posting every dy does really encourage the kind of thinking you are engaging in with your photos and that can only be a positive thing even if not every photo is 'the best'. Thanks for adding to my daily inspiration. @lumpiniman

I like the image - I love faffing (post processing) so would, as @allsop Andrew suggested, probably have a play
