Can I clarify the rules

November 2nd, 2023
I'm still relatively new to the site and just need to clarify something. I know we are aiming to post an image each day and I thought it was supposed to be an image taken that day. I have seen some people posting images over several days that are seemingly from the same event, so probably not taken that day.
Can anyone put me straight please.

The rules are your own rules Gina - "Your project your rules" is a popular phrase here.

The site only permits a photo per album per day, but the date can be changed when it is uploaded.

Some of us loathe gaps in our primary album, others embrace them. Some are strict Photo-a-Day people, others less so.

Welcome to 365, a most supportive and friendly site and a place I've learnt so much ( not just about photogging!)

hi, gina. welcome to 365. yes, a photo a day but not necessarily taken on the same day. life can get busy so we do not always have the opportunity to take magnificent photos all the time. on this site, the mantra is "your project, your rules". enjoy your project, you will like it here.

Hi Gina. I try to do a photo a day but rarely make it happen. If I've been to something where I took a few shots I put them up over a few days. That's what I love about this site - flexibility is the main theme! Enjoy and don't make it a chore.

Hiya Gina. During my first year I tried to do one a day but sometimes life gets in the way. When doing themes and challenges you have to grab an opportunity when it arises so therefore it might not appear on that day.
The things is to enjoy the process and do what’s best for you. Good luck.

Hi Gina!
Just a small warning: if you don't post a photo every day, watch your back because the photography police will be right coming after you and get your camera and click your shutter until it wears off... or your battery dies.
Otherwise, don't mind me and do whatever fits your purpose. Your project, your rules.

Thank you for posting this Gina. There are great replies from seasoned members. When I bought into the ace membership it allows me a lot more flexibility as to the number of pictures and dates.

In my first year on 365, I found taking a posting a photo a day to be very useful. It taught me the 'habit' of photography, as well as helped me develop a new way of seeing the world -- sometimes looking at "micro" scenes I would never have even noticed, or looking at a common scene to figure out new ways of portraying it, or pushing myself through the various challenges on the website. I learned to carry my camera everywhere and not feel embarrassed or strange doing so. With each year, I set different goals for myself. In the end, as others have said, just figure out what you'd like to get out of the experience and then use that to make your decision about how strict you want to be.

If you take a photo a day, it can help you develop a photographer’s eye. But it’s your project your way.

When I first joined up I was posting an image every day, taken on that day....but as others have already said, it's your project and your rules. I post on the day, after the day, around the day and even take leaves of absence for mental health.
I once discovered a hole in the time space continuum and started posting years in advance.
Basically, you do you :)

Welcome to the 365! It is all about what brings you joy & what your goal is for this adventure.

@ginamees Welcome to 365 and enjoy your adventure here with us. As I don't get out much, a photo a day does not work for me. I also do themes in two of my albums, all taken on the same day. That means the last photo is 4 weeks old. The other two are random photos taken during the week. There are a few who post photos that are few years old :-)

Hi Gina! And welcome aboard. As others have said, "Your project, your rules" is a great way to approach 365. During my first two years here I stuck to the photo a day very faithfully with only missing a few days to a power outage from Hurricane Sandy. My third year was a mix of actual photo a day shots and other pictures that were taken on or about the date and it's been that way ever since with large blocks of photos from special trips and other assorted archived pictures when parts of life get in the way and I'm unable to get a new picture. Like many others, those first two years really honed my ability to see a photograph pretty much anywhere and I really enjoyed developing that knack. 365 is definitely the best place to improve your skills and creativity in a friendly and dynamic environment of support and friendship. You will meet people from around the world that both challenge and inspire you. So have fun, and enjoy the adventure!

@taffy I agree with Taffy, I pushed myself first year to post photo taken on that day, I found that it is very beneficial when I am getting desperate, The photo coming out surprises me. I am still taking photos every day, but not necessarily post on that day due to lack of time to upload and processing. Welcome to 365!

@ginamees Hi Gina and welcome to 365. When I started here I was learning to use my camera and the habit to taking a photo practically every day for the first year, trying out many different types of photography and techniques, really helped with that. Since then I've been trying to hone my skills as a photographer so my project will have several photos from one photo trip or photowalk. I now concentrate more on what I see, composition, narrative, etc., and what I want the end result to be, because the camera settings have become almost second-nature. I love that we have the "your project, your rules" mantra here and that everyone is super helpful, friendly and caring.

Hi Gina, I have religiously taken a picture (or quite a few) a day since I started and posted a selected one for the day it was taken. Lately however, I have sometimes changed what I do a little. I still take a picture a day, but sometimes post one I took on an earlier day if I prefer it to the ones I have taken that day (if that makes sense.) It also means that when I really can't chose my favourite shot for that day I save those favourites for a day when I am not happy with what I have done. Hubby has got used to me saying 'oops not taken my daily photo yet' so I still like the idea that actually taking a picture a day however good or bad it is helps me to keep improving and learning and fine tuning my 'photo eye'.
