"The Peace of Wild Things"

by Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
A lovely capture

Not only is the picture and the lighting gorgeous, so is the poem. I imagine your world seems quite tumultuous at times. Praying for you!

A wonderful wild flower and I am so sorry that many people destroy this beauty forever.

@olivetreeann Thank you for your prayers, Ann. My granddaughter lost her other grandmother last week, and I thought of her (and all of us) when I read that poem. She has lost 2 grandparents in 6 months. Nature can be a real comfort.

@eudora True, but I think it is the Lord working through the world He created that is the most comforting of all.
