I often challenge myself to shoot at night, although it can at times be a bit more dangerous. This gentleman saw me shooting him from farther off and when I got closer, began to ask me what I was doing. I continued to shoot him as I got closer, to include this shot. Once I was close enough to him to converse, I asked him my standard question that often put people off: Why do you ask? He seemed a bit confused when I did (i have experienced this many times before, as most just expect you to answer their question, just because it was asked), and said: "Oh I was just curious." I then said to him: "No worries....take a look, I'm making you look gooood!" He did, and he liked the shot, so he volunteered his email to me, so that I could send him a jpeg. Mission accomplished, got the shot and made a friend!
@kipper1951@johnfalconer@ludwigsdiana Thanks! So far, I have only had one "situation" and that was back in 2014, at Ohio University in southern Ohio. I was walking and shooting in the campus area with my wife, took a few shots of church from the middle of an intersection I was crossing, and a young guy started yelling at me, cussing, walking up to me telling me that I had no right to take his picture and that I should delete it. I told my wife to keep walking as he approached me, explained I was shooting the church and did not really even mean to include him as he was kind of blocking the shot, which i showed him, and I also deleted it in front of him. He then just turned around and walked down the street. Guess what? I shoot with Nikons that hold TWO cards, and the one that was deleted was the Raw file, but I still had another of him on the jpeg backup file! Glover wins!!!!
I rather like this portrait and saw it as a posed one as opposed to a candid street portrait. I am thinking about the white line of light and if it adds to the image, and I think it might! I would lose those lights at the top and darken the bottom to the image to remove the highlighted area. It is interesting how we all gain skills to take street portraits but the main thing is to look genuine, confident and not creepy! I always carry a business card or two with me.
@marshwader Hey thanks for commenting, The vertical white line is the edge of his stand, where he keeps his keys. I like and agree with your edit suggestions related to the white lights up top and the lighter portion on the bottom.
