The City Of Gaithersburg had their fireworks display on Saturday night. They listed on their website a few spots around town that you would be able to see them from if you wanted to avoid the crowds at the park. I choose the elementary school about a half mile away and it was a great view. No real foreground since I was sitting in a parking lot but they did appear over a tree line.
@milaniet Was looking at your settings for hints for tonight (ours) and gather you must have been closer than I can get. But I'm going to try something close to yours. Thanks :)
@milaniet it's probably too late but here's what I do. camera in manual mode. shutter speed in bulb , aperture I start at around f9 . Camera on tripod with wire remote attached. When I see them raising I push my shutter button on my remote and hold it down till the burst is over and let up on remote button so shutter closes. I do this for each burst sometimes holding a black card in my other hand and holding it in front of the lens between the bursts keeping the shutter open to include a couple of bursts. Oh get your focus on something far away before the fireworks start and then turn the auto focus off to manual focus so the camera doesn't keep trying to focus. Hope this making sense and will help your future fireworks photography.
