Family friends have a daughter having a 9 year old birthday party, with a 10 minute slot of Go Karting booked at the venue. Maddy was so keen to be a "big girl" and ride in "the bumper cars". The minimum age for the Go Karts is 9 years old with a minimum height requirement but for little ones like Maddy they can be accommodated in a double Go Kart. So much excitement, but within a couple of slow rounds she was petrified and I took her away crying while her daddy continued on his own with a lot more speed.
@ludwigsdiana Thank you. I think as a small child and young adult I would have loved the speed, and enjoyed the thrill more than I do now. I used to ride my tricycle down a steep hill for the thrill of the speed, and had to learn to judge how to turn in time to miss landing up in the big bougainvillea bush at the bottom. My mother couldn't watch me playing and said she would listen from inside - if there were any screams she knew she had to come and check. :)
@narayani I know - so disappointing for her after the excited anticipation. I somehow think the other karts racing past were scary as she wouldn't even stay with me near the track - just cried until I took her back to where the other adults were at the lunch venue.
