This is fermenting wine at Benziger winery. Each stainless steel tank is covered with a thick layer of insulation and a heating and cooling blanket that keeps the temp constant.
Great shot Debbie - and such an interesting way to structure the vats. We don't have anything like that over here - most of the vats are inside a building.
I love visiting wineries and distilleries. They fascinate me. At one point, we lived in Dublin and worked at Guinness Brewery. I just love that whole industry's workings in situ.
That's really interesting- there have been some really interesting techniques developed over the last decade. One winery around here doesn't even use the tanks- instead they have these units that look like an oversized milk crate lined with heavy duty plastic! good shot!
