Taps, irrigation and sanitation - the results of our ancestors learning to tame and channel water. Many of us take it for granted so often - even during a drought here in Melbourne we were never actually at risk of not having water in our houses - while millions around the world have to carry what water they can, often over large distances, just to have enough to drink.

So true , even we (in Holland ) have to take good care of drinking water.

very apt, and we in Ireland are getting water meters and will have to pay for consumption, and while it never stops raining here and we never have droughts is a bit of a joke and just another tax on an already highly taxed country.
It is no more true than in Malta, Alia. We have long periods of lack of rainfall but we never lack water in our houses. We have large reverse osmosis plants which purify sea water and pump it into our water system.
Having just been without running water for a week (we did manage to store up enough in jugs to get by before the storm hit), I feel like I've only gotten a small dose of what other people are going through- and that was enough! But then, I've always been very appreciative of these things. I don't know why, but I just have.
