I had the idea for this shot a few days ago. I coerced both of my girls to participate as the models slow dancing with their daddy. It wasn't too tough as they both adore dressing up.
What was tough was getting a decent shot with subjects with a very short attention span. I had the finished product looking a little different in my mind (I wanted to show the girls standing on Michael's feet and gazing up at him adoringly). I also wanted better lighting, but I worked with what ghetto equipment I have and this is what I got. Not too shabby considering...:).
They grow so fast. My oldest is about to be 8!!! I can still remember first becoming a mama like it was yesterday. The monkey in the middle (pictured here) is 6. My baby is about to turn 4. This week she gave me her favorite blanket and asked if we could sell it. I was so surprised as it is her next best thing to her own thumb..."Why?" I asked incredulously. "Because I feel like a big girl without it." This kinda broke my heart. I am not ready for that.
Slow down kiddos. Slow down life. And I need to remind myself, a type A personality, to slow the heck down. Just BE sometimes. Enjoy the moments. Take time to slow dance with the kids. Sigh...
Awww what a super sweet capture :) I love her gorgeous smile :) I know can you believe how fast time flies! And kids grow up so quickly these days...... that is sad about your youngest giving you her blanket.... but I guess they have to grow up sometime... :) Keep capturing those memories :) You're a wonderful mother and they will grow up to be amazing images of you :) Hugs
Beautiful! The expression on your daughter's sweet face is priceless -- she's obviously enjoying the moment! Your description and image perfectly capture a mom's desire to slow time. Well done!
What a sweet shot and perfect for the slow-down theme! I feel the same way! Tonight, in fact, as the 3 year old fell asleep in the recliner with me. He won't do that forever. This is such a sweet memory and I love the look on her face!
That has to be one of the sweetest I have seen to date. Adoring look might had been your goal, but if you ask me, the look of joy that she has, well that's worth more than her weight in gold.
Lovely moment! I remember doing this with my Dad. But sadly, no pictures. Hey, my girls are now 26 and 29, seems like just yesterday they were this size.
Awe, Amanda your story almost made me cry. I have three kids and know exactly what you are saying. Grogeous shot, you captured a beautiful moment in time.
Awww, lovely sentiments in your writing. I can relate so well to them. Unfortunately they all grow up so quickly and before long they'll be moving out! My youngest is now 16 and it feels like yesterday when I had him. Beautiful shot and a great one for the theme xx
So sweet and I completely relate! My baby is about to be 7 and my oldest will turn 14 two days later. Even worse yet, I have to take him Tuesday night for freshman enrollment!!! I don't even know how that's possible. Really beautiful shot for the theme!
haha........I know what you mean by ghetto equipment;) It's so hard to get good shots indoor. Your idea was a great one and you caught an adorable smile on her face:)
@cromwell Thank you so much for the fav, Crom. This shot is a treasure to me and I love that it meant something to you as a daddy of two girls. I'll bet you were/are a fun papa!
@kbalychev Your comments are always the best, lady. Luckily the baby wanted her blanket back after nap. She can't suck her thumb without it apparently. Thanks so much, my friend, for your kindness:)!
@butrfli Absolutely. I've got to get this shot with my other daughter, too. Well, I did, but a better one:). Appreciate your comments, Dana!

@rachelmackenzie She got it back as soon as she "woke up." She didn't nap that day...starting to give them up. That's another thing I don't like about this growing up business!!!;-). Thanks so much, Rachel!!
@amyamoeba Aw, sweet that you did that, too, Amy. I don't remember doing it with my dad, but definitely did with my grandpa. Thanks for your great comments!
Lovely!! And I understand trying to slow down time - one on mine went to university in September and my 6ft tall 'baby' is racing on towards Sixth Form. I want to grab the reins and pull them hard just to move a little slower...
Precious. Yes, it goes by so fast. Before you know it they are married with their own. Don't you think the camera helps you slow a bit . . . makes you stop to capture those moments you have walked right by?
@barbsmith The camera helps and hurts in ways. Before I got into photography last year, I frequently didn't want to ruin the moment by running to get the camera. I am capturing them now, but not as much a part of it. It's a trade-off you make to catch stuff, I guess. Thanks, sweet lady!
@worldbiking Thanks so much, sweet lady!!
@kwind Thanks, Miss Kim.
