Shooting the Wind (UCM) by alophoto

Shooting the Wind (UCM)

I had the brilliant idea to take a walk with Clara this morning. The sun was out and it looked like a gorgeous day. We set out for a local park and I brought the camera along in hopes of taking some shots while we were out.

Well, I knew that it was a bit breezy out, but I had no idea how blustery it was. Wind gust were 25-35 mph and were practically blowing us over for the few minutes that we were out of the car.

This shot is a happy accident. It is a UCM or unintentional camera movement shot:). It was in focus and I guess that the wind blew me over (or something) as I was taking it. I really loved how it turned out. I got several more shots that were in focus and they were lame in comparison.

It reminds me a tad of one of my favorite shots of mine from last year that I am planning to enter in a local photo contest (though I can't decide if it should be in the landscape or people category): http://365project.org/amandalomonaco/365/2012-09-28. It has the same impressionistic feel.

Some people shoot the breeze, I try to capture the wind.
You are right, the blurred effect makes this photo. Also love the shadows cast by the trees adding some contrast.

Love the soft atmospheric feel to the image and great composition!

commenting to the link..since it has people in it I think I'd choose the people category.

Very nice! The blur really adds to the mood of the shot! Great tones.
February 11th, 2013
Lol I like your acronym...and your photo!! I would go with 'people'.
February 11th, 2013
Hi Amanda, hope I'm doing this correctly. If not feel free to correct me.
For your get pushed challenge the theme is "shoes"
Great project by the way!!

Lovely blurry shot. It's so hard to get these type of shots right so that they don't just look out of focus xx
February 11th, 2013
UCM is a new term for me. I like it and I like the shot - a lot.
February 11th, 2013
@barbsmith I made it up myself. Usually it is ICM...the I standing for intentional.:). Thanks, Barb. I liked it a bunch, too!:)

You really are so creative, you turn a blurred image into an art-work and even invent a three letter abbreviation along the way
February 11th, 2013
love this - the focus is spot on - very dreamy
February 11th, 2013
I saw the other one too and like the focus on the stones but you don't seem to have a real focus on this one which is what you meant, is it? Supposed to be like a dream!
February 11th, 2013
Neat! Good luck in the contest! Do you know if they want their landscapes people-free?
February 11th, 2013
Peoplescape :)
February 11th, 2013
That is some crazy winds my dear! What a lovely surprise shot tho! I love the man with his dog! Wonderful capture! And I really really love the one you are going to enter in the contest.... hmm hard category to pick since the landscape is what is in focus... but there are a few people in it... enter it in both... shhhh I won't tell anyone :)
February 12th, 2013
That is a neat shot, gives it a different feel, .dreamy.

@happysnap Thanks so much, Linda. Appreciate you getting this:)! I liked the shadows/contrast, too!

@paul2782 Thanks so much, Paul! Not a shred of paper in sight, though. Next time, perhaps.

@tbats22 I think so, too, yet it is not a strong people photo. I love it, though, but not expecting to win anything. Thanks for your great input.

@kwind Thank you, Kim. You are sweet!

@egad Thanks so much for your feedback, friend! I think you are right!

@nicolamac Aw, you are sweet. Yours, too:). Shoes it is. I had some ideas for the week already and will include shoes in them. Thanks for a fun one!

@psychographer I'd like to know how to do this on purpose! But my mistake made me happy.:) Thanks, Lisa.

@tonydebont Why thank you very much, Tony. How kind of you to say that. I've gotta make the 'bad' shots work somehow. Funny how I like it so much.:) Really appreciate your comments!

@sparkle Aw, you are sweet. Thank you, lady!

@maggiemae It was a total accident. I have no idea what happend here. I was in focus and really think that I moved in the wind. I liked how it turned out, though...far superior to the clear shots. Weird, huh? Thanks, Maggiemae!

@archaeofrog No clue. That one probably won't win. It's not really a fit for either...not strong people or landscape, but I still love it. Oh well, may as well try. I have another stronger one to enter, too. Foggy Fences from last year.

@softbootsailer Perfect. Done!

@kbalychev I would, but it is $15 per entry. I am going to enter 2 photos. I have another that I really love, but it needs too much editing to make it worthy. Such that it wouldn't look good blown up with my editing skills. Thanks for your comments, my friend. It was a woman with the dog, though too fuzzy to tell.

@bristolrose Thanks, lady. I really liked the dreamy feel!:)

Lyn
Way to go, girl. . .I love UCM!
February 12th, 2013
@lyno :). Thanks, Lyn!! Sheesh, was it windy today, or what?! Driving was even hard with the gusts!
February 12th, 2013
Such a great composition and I love how the blur gives it kind of a soft, dreamy feel. Almost like a memory, if that makes any sense.
February 12th, 2013
Beautiful composition. UCM looks great here.
February 12th, 2013
Fantastic! What you said at the bottom just nails it! :)
February 12th, 2013
Love that my eye goes right to the dog.
February 12th, 2013
Nice composition - totally agree with what Mandy has said above :)
February 12th, 2013
you shot the wind nicely :-)
February 12th, 2013
A happy accident!
February 12th, 2013
Wonderful capture! Love the composition and focus.
February 12th, 2013
Rather cool ... congratulations on coining a new three letter acronym, by the way. :-)
February 12th, 2013
I adore your sense of humour and your shot!
February 12th, 2013
This is such a cool shot. The focus works so well for it. Tough to pull off but beautifully done.
February 12th, 2013
Dreamlike capture!!
February 12th, 2013
Great capture. I love it, and I also like your old photo. In fact, I faved it ;)
February 12th, 2013
@siwainastromoy Thanks so much for that fav, lady. I really loved that other shot, too. One of my all time favs of my own. Thanks for your comments, too:)!
February 13th, 2013
@emrob Totally makes sense. Love that, Mandy. Thank you!

@bardejov Thanks so much, sweet lady!

@tamaradawn Aw, thanks, lady. Love that you said that and pointed that out to me:).

@cmc1200 Thanks, Caryn! What the heck did I do to get this? Although today I was fuzzy with a lot of shots, too. Sheesh. Settings? User error? Having seizures? I really think that this one was wind caused.

@malc Thanks, Malc. Appreciate your comments!

@abhijit Thank you, Abhijit. I was rather pleased that I caught it;-).

@bpaquette I love those moments. Thanks, friend!

@rachelmackenzie Thanks, Miss Rachel. Wish I knew how to recreate it when I want to again! I love these types of shots sometimes.

@automaticslim I love to start trends, make up words, acronyms, etc. Thanks, Andy:)!!

@masosy And I adore your comments...thank you, Kate!

@edie Do you know how to do this on purpose? I sure don't. I'd love to so I can do it when I want to in the future. Oh to be an expert...

@carolmw Thanks so much, Carol!
