I love pretty scenery and found myself shooting much of that on my trip, but then I also love what the human element adds to the scenes. I noticed a couple walking on the beach and then saw a perfect frame right by me, crouched down and caught them through the driftwood like any good creeper would;). This was one of my favorite shots when looking at it on my camera screen. Not sure if I like it as much on the big screen. I wonder how it would have been had I reversed the focus and focused on the foreground driftwood instead (I think that they wouldn't have even been distinguishable as people, though). What do you think?
PS - I think the foreground focusing would have been a good idea, but as you say, they may have been indistinguishable then. However, it does work like this too. I love having a human [or animal, if no humans about] element in an image - it just does that something extra, I think!
I think it is probably better with the focus this way around because of the size of the people, they may have just appeared like little dark blobs. This works for me and like the way the people are pin sharp and that small area of turquoise sea.
Had to do a double-take on this. My first thought was, "Oops, a blurry picture." And then I looked again and thought, "Wow - that was brilliant!" Love it. :)
i'd have asked them to stand still and then experimented with the focus ;p
i do like the comp a lot - find the foreground being out of focus is a bit uncomfortable for my eye at first - altho' i get accustomed to it after a moment or two :)
@northy I wish I had thought to take another shot with a different focus. I didn't realize that the foreground was so out of focus. Oh well...next time. "Hey guys, can you just hold up and act natural while I am spying on you through the wood with my camera!;-)"
I really like this shot, Amanda. I would have maybe cropped it more at the bottom and seen what it looked like then. Like you said I would have liked to have seen it with the driftwood in focus also but then the couple would be washed out as would the beach and the ocean. Could you have made them both clear? I keep looking at it and it is quite artsy just the way it is. You have a great eye and fun camera to use.
Interesting focus. I think I agree with Darlene. Maybe try a landscape crop with a third of the sandy land at the bottom and the other two thirds to include the couple. Would be good to see how it would look with the focus reversed too xx
@psychographer I so wish I had tried alternate focuses. I got in two quick shots and was lucky to get something in focus. I also cropped some, but maybe should have more. I so loved how it looked small:). Thanks, Lisa!
@darsphotos I wished that I had tried other things. Only got off two quick shots and I liked them in the screen. Too late once I got home:(. Thanks, friend. I still do like this. I'll have to try something similar another time and play more.
@adamj Perhaps a wee bit bigger would have been better and smootchers would have made it PERFECT. Love how you and Michael include couples in your shots. Way better than a plain old beach scene during the day:).
@seanoneill I loved it so much better on my screen. I adored it. Wish I had the focus different. I loved the framing, though. Thank you, Sean. We are romantics, aren't we?
