Meeting at Night
By Robert Browning
I
The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
II
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!
Let me just start by saying that my husband is the best. This is how we spent some of our Valentines day evening, kissing in front of the fire for photos. We also drank some Fireball whiskey (cinnamon flavored like an atomic fireball candy) and then watched a funny movie. Our original plans were derailed due to sickness...mine, the kids, our friends kids and our baby sitter, too. But despite that and not getting out on a steak dinner date, we had a wonderful evening. And this fabulous man suggested (he suggested!!!) that we do some photos. This shot was my idea. It didn't come out as I had hoped (though I shot it in auto). Ideally, it would have been us silhouetted. Pointers for proper settings to capture us silhouetted? I couldn't get the effect with processing in anyway so I decided to use sc. Love it, hate it...whatever. I did rather like the dramatic affect and warmth of the fire. Not as much the oompa loompa like glow our skin had.
Here is a more passionate entry for the Mad Hatters poetry theme this week. I had a more silly shot and poem yesterday. And here is my Mad Hatters shot which is the opposite of this one. We are engaged in the absolute opposite behavior. Check it out...

By the way, if you didn't see how Alice and Wonderland progressed or ended during the week, check it out
@madhatters It was loads of fun and wonderfully done.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments. This was a fun one to do, that's for sure. But man, still in awe that he didn't mind doing this on Valentine's day. What a guy!
I would have used the spot meter and exposed for the flames behind you, that should result in a silhouette.
@bill_fe Oh thanks, Bill. And your words are so nice and true!!
@taffy Thanks, Taffy. So glad you think so, too. Sometimes it saves shots, me thinks. Your yesterday's shot in the slush reminded me of ME. He's rubbing off on you!:)
