Here is mama and a wee babe left behind. Mama is keeping the home fires burning. Or tent fans in this case. I just loved these two and stole lots of snaps to get this just so.
Hope you are not too sick of my Civil War series yet. I am just trying to tell the story of the day and event. Almost done with the series. And I threw a shot of me as a murderous pawn in to mix things up:). Thanks for all of your amazing comments and faves. Thanks for putting up with me.
Also, wish me luck as I entered this shot in a local photo contest today. No prize but to have the shot exhibited downtown for a month or so should I place. I was wracking my brain as to what to enter and really loved this one and thought it was rather unique.
@summerfield There is just something about that lady, that I love. And the baby toes help out, too. She was a gorgeous redhead with freckles. So serious. And with the processing it reminded me a hair of those old dust bowl photos of women in b&w...had a hopelessness about them. Thank you!
I saw this on my feed, and had to fav it before I got here to post a comment. It really does look like an authentic, old time photo. And yes, her face does really show hard times.
Boy these people really get into these re-enactments don't they? Fantastic capture Amanda! I love the feel of this and especially the expression on the face of the woman. Very Matthew Bradyish! Fav!
Here I sit on Buttermilk Hill
Who can blame me, cryin' my fill
And ev'ry tear would turn a mill,
Johnny has gone for a soldier.
Me, oh my, I loved him so,
Broke my heart to see him go,
And only time will heal my woe,
Johnny has gone for a soldier.
I'll sell my rod, I'll sell my reel,
Likewise I'll sell my spinning wheel,
And buy my love a sword of steel,
Johnny has gone for a soldier.
I'll dye my dress, I'll dye it red,
And through the streets I'll beg for bread,
For the lad that I love from me has fled,
Johnny has gone for a soldier.
@cejaanderson Aw, thanks for sharing. It just breaks my heart. Can't imagine having my husband go off to war and leave us behind. This was such a horrible grizzly war, too. I guess they all are.
Perfect vintage feel. It actually makes me feel that it is of the period. You've captured such a wonderful expression on her face. Putting this in my favorites.
@bill_fe Always trendy, never popular. I'll take trendy:). thanks, Bill!!! Did you see Pissy Polly? I tagged you and it is in my theme album on July 11th, I think.
FANTASTIC...It is so realistic that I thought it was a photo of an old photo. Excellent and I would imagine you would WIN the competition. Well done...the young lad did an excellent job in recreating that era and scene perfectly as well. Your processing is superb!! HUGE FAV
Wow, guys...thank you so much. Your amazing comments, faves and words really encouraged me. This is one of my all time faves of mine and was so glad that you all appreciated it, too. So hope to place in the contest even though it's just small potatoes. And also, thanks for helping me to make the POP page for the first time in months. Love that it was with one that is meaningful to me. Thank you!!!!
Oh my! My first thought was good lord that's a lot of work for a selfie - forgive me but I've been on a long break and I was used to seeing selfies from you! Your Civil War series are incredible, the processing you have chosen just encapsulates that time so well. Well done and good luck with the contest, this deserves to be displayed.
