Stefano the actor stranger #28

In Mantua these days there is a Festival of Literature with so many events one does not know what to follow. This event was the reenactment of the process that condemned Jacopo Sansovino, the chief architect of the Venetian republic in the 1500's, for the collapse of a dome being built in Piazza San Marco. Stefano who was reading the part of Sansovino was happy to impersonate also my stranger #28!
Your stranger project is progressing so well! You have caught his eyes very well.

Thank you @robz, I don’t have much time for other projects so I continue, slowly, with the portraits and learn many things on the way. This guy, for example deserved a little lore neck!

Nice portrait. As always, your subject appears very comfortable with the camera and the photograplher. I'd like to watch you work sometime. His character comes through quite nicely. I do have one small suggestion to make, because I know that you welcome them. It might have been nice if you had placed him against a background that had a little more contrast with his hair color. Or placed him under a light which would have lit his hair and give it some highlights, detail, and/or separation. His hair, especially on the left side of his face(right side of the photo) seems to just merge into the background. But not to any real artistic effect that I can see. This does not distract from the photo too much. But nor does it really add to it. Just something to think about for the next such situation. You can achieve a similar effect by lighting the background behind the subject. But that is usually harder to do depending upon how much equipment you have. Since this seems like a posed photo, it's often easier just to change where you pose your subject slightly. Again, this is a small criticism. The most important things: the subject, the pose, the composition, exposure, detail, facial contrast; all seem very well handled. Nice job.

Thank you @mbrutus for your expert, sandwich-composed, comment. Thank you for both the nice parts and for the criticism. As you may or may not know, I’m just learning how to make portraits and therefore your observation is very helpful. Unfortunately this is not a staged picture. I caught the actor at the end of his performance and took the picture in a hurry where he was standing. I plan to post another picture taken at the same time, where however the “model” was moving and my ShutterSpeed was much too low. Learning. Hopefully

@suzanne234 thank you Suzanne. That’s in fact the interesting part: finding the right characters for the project.

Nice portrait shot- impressive that it was done quickly at the end of his performance because it has a casual take your time kind of feel to it.

Being an actor he probably knew how to pose, even in a hurry! @olivetreeann

@caterina under those circumstances, it is even a more impressive photo. Though it does not say much for the stage lighting. Nicely done.
