basil bee by corymbia

basil bee

A filler in green - for both the theme and St Paddy's Day. I'd love to know what kind of bee this is because it isn't a regular honey bee and seemed to be solitary.
Any idea on the kind of bee this could be @bobfoto or @robv? Location is Brisbane, Australia.

@corymbia @robv - I'm gonna say a Male Blue Banded Bee. They look a little different to the ladies, they have an extra stripe and I can count 5 here. And they (if I get this right) are nectar feeders only. The ladies need nectar for energy to collect the pollen so Basil and other blue flowering plants are perfect for this as they release stuff all pollen and only nectar. Now if I got that wrong its just about swapping pollen for nectar...

@bobfoto I don't think this is a Blue-banded Bee, the underside of the abdomen is adapted to carry pollen like many Leafcutter Bees. That would make this a Megachilid not an Apid(formerly Anthophoridae).

@robv - upon a second a look it does appear its got the legs and belly designed for pollen... well spotted.

@robv @bobfoto thanks guys - yes - there was heaps of pollen on the belly. I will do some more research.
