Dawn's Early Light

Pier at Fort Monroe looking out towards Fort Wool, just after sunrise. These two forts were built to defend the Hampton Roads Harbor. The land behind Fort Wool is Willoughby Spit
Marie I love how you captured that soft morning light on the pier and the flag in the background. I started humming before I caught the song reference (forgive me it's been a long day with teenagers and power outages) LOL. Love the title...

Wonderful representation of "Dawn's Early Light"! Now we need "Twilight's Last Gleaming" or "The Rocket's Red Glare" :)

@olivetreeann The Star Spangled Banner fort is Fort McHenry. Fort Monroe might be familiar to you from Civil War history - Lincoln planned a major campaign here, and Jefferson Davis was imprisoned here.

@dmariewms Oh, you know I did know that. I guess the title through me off! Thanks for correcting me! At any rate, it's a lovely shot thanks to the morning light.

This is truly a wonderful photo :-D You have the Rule of Thirds nicely demonstrated, an interesting foreground subject contrasted with any equally-interesting background one, several contrasting colors... I could go on, but why bother? I'll just give you my ultimate compliment: I wish I had taken this shot.

This is the most wonderful morning picture. Beautiful light and great composition. As so often with your images it makes me wish I could walk there.
