The Corn Exchange, Preston by fishers

The Corn Exchange, Preston

Lucy and I found the Corn Exchange and memorial on our day trip to Preston. The corn exchange dates from 1822 and has had many different functions and rebuilds. The memorial dates from the late 1980's and commemorates the deaths of four men in the 1842 during the Plug Plot Riots. They died protesting for the right men to have a vote but not in front of a firing squad as the memorial implies. http://www.history-preston.net84.net/publicandcorn.html

Ahh, so they were fired upon rather than the firing squad as depicted. As always, enjoy your educational enlightenment. Very nice as always :-)
