Notre Dame

When I first arrived in Paris, there was a temporary structure in front of the Notre Dame which severely inhibited one's ability to take a decent shot of the thing because it's so tall. So I went this weekend to take some pictures now you can fit the whole frontage in the frame... only to realise there was a Christmas tree in the way. So instead I got this side shot. I always think the side of the Notre Dame almost doesn't match the front, because the side has pointy towers whereas the front is very square. But it is beautiful and I love that I live a half hour walk away. - Lucy
Cracking shot. Have they cleaned it?

Very nice capture. I didn't think the scaffolding was ever removed from cathedrals in Europe.

Hi Lucy - you've done well here, I know myself that it is not easy to get a clear shot of the building. From the spiritual point of view, I find Notre Dame rather dark and somber; I much prefer the lightness and airiness of Sacré Coeur. Nice capture - I enjoyed seeing it this evening.

@pjr Thanks Pete. They are both stunning in their own ways. I like the history of Notre Dame, Sacré Coeur is very young by comparison! - Lucy

@vignouse Thank you Pete. I agree the inside of Notre Dame is very dark, although there must be more natural light in it than I give it credit for because when I took pictures inside a few months ago, my camera was able to focus and I didn't get that many blurry pictures, as one might expect without the flash. But I do like the Sacré Coeur too, I posted a pic of that back in November I think it was. - Lucy
